Two HB residents are killed in plane crash

A plane crash off the coast of British Columbia on Sunday afternoon left six people dead, including two Huntington Beach residents.

Richard Bruce Haskett, 49, and Cindy Shafer, a Canadian citizen, died after a float plane crashed into the harbor off the island of Saturna, according to a release by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The plane, on its way to Vancouver, crashed into the water shortly after takeoff. Of the eight passengers on board, only two adults survived. They are receiving medical treatment.

Four other Canadian citizens died, including a 6-month-old. The incident is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board and the British Columbia Coroners Service.
