STOCKTON — Karlee Skalla tallied 13 kills and four blocks to help lead the Orange Coast College women’s volleyball team past Sierra to win the loser’s bracket of the California Community College Athletic Assn. state championships at San Joaquin Delta College Saturday.

Skalla recorded a .480 hitting percentage in the 25-21, 25-12, 25-14 win against Sierra.

Rachel Freeno led the Pirates (23-3) with 17 digs. Poe Gantt had 12 kills and Briana Fields added nine kills with a .533 hitting percentage.

OCC will play against Irvine Valley in a semifinal today. The winner will play against Cypress in the final. All three teams are from the Orange Empire Conference. Cypress is undefeated at the state tournament.

The Pirates began Saturday with a 25-23, 25-14, 25-21 win over Sacramento City College. Gantt led OCC with 10 kills, while Freeno had nine kills. Nikki Osuna led the Pirates with 22 digs.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Biola 67, Vanguard 66

COSTA MESA — Elvis Whitelow and Gregory Scott each scored 13 points for the Lions in a Golden State Athletic Conference game ON Saturday.

Mitch Boyce finished with 14 points for Vanguard (1-3, 1-1 in conference).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UC Irvine 60, Seattle 59

IRVINE — Keyonna Johnson made a layup with 1.1 seconds remaining as the Anteaters ended a four-game losing streak Saturday.

Johnson, who finished with 10 points, took the inbound pass and drove the length of the court to lay in the game-winner from the left side.

Jade Smith-Williams and Jazmyne White scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, for UCI (2-6).

Vanguard 85, Biola 70

COSTA MESA — Rachel Copeland finished with 26 points and she made five three-pointers in the Lions’ Golden State Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

Bridgette Reyes contributed 25 points for Vanguard (5-1, 1-1 in conference).
