Sage tops Connelly

NEWPORT COAST — Sage Hill School junior Sarah Derheim scored a career-high 14 and senior Hannah Jeffrey had a career-high 19 rebounds to pace the Lightning to a 45-13 nonleague win over visiting Connelly on Monday.

Sophomore Ava Soleimany contributed 11 points for the winners, who improved to 2-0.

Sage Hill returns to action tonight, playing host to Santa Ana in a nonleague game at 7.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Alex Morton had a season-high 26 points and added 20 rebounds for the host Sailors in the nonleague game Monday.

Jane Barry had nine rebounds and six points, while Coleen Mead had four assists and three rebounds for the Tars (3-2).

Newport Harbor visits Laguna Beach for a nonleague game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Senior Natalie Argueta pulled the Mustangs even early in the second half in a nonleague contest affected by the elements Monday at Estancia High.

“The wind was unbelievable,” Costa Mesa Coach Dan Johnston said. “Girls would kick the ball into the air and it would come back toward the kicker. And balls that were kicked crosswise were bending 20 and 30 feet in the air. It made it very difficult to control the ball.

Goalkeeper Brittany Stair made three saves for the Mustangs (2-0-1).

Segerstrom is also now 2-0-1.

Costa Mesa hits the road Wednesday to face Beckman in a nonleague game.

IRVINE — Junior Mark Loper scored 14, while Kevin Schaefer and Frank Shapiro had 12 apiece for the Lightning in the pool-play opener of the Tarbut V’Torah Tournament Monday at Tarbut V’Torah.

Connor Gaughan added six rebounds for Sage (2-0).

Zinsmeyer Academy of Long Beach is 0-1.

Sage meets TVT today at 5 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Junior Andrew Albers had a season-high 16 rebounds and added 14 points for the host Mustangs in the nonleague game Monday.

Connor Metcalfe had 10 points for Costa Mesa, which fell to 1-4.

The Mustangs face La Costa Canyon in the South Orange County Tournament tonight at 6 at Tesoro High.

CORONA DEL MAR — Pippa Saunders and Cassidy Papa scored two goals apiece to help the host Sea Kings post their first win of the season in the nonleague game Saturday.

Margot Money and Victoria Kent added goals for CdM (1-1), which received 11 saves from Alex Musselman.

Money had a team-best two assists and Saunders led the Sea Kings defenders by collecting a pair of steals.
