WESTMINSTER — Senior Jairo Farfan headed in a cross from sophomore Jorge Sanchez for the game-winner in injury time of the nonleague game Monday at Westminster High.

Farfan, shifted from stopper to forward in the second half, converted a penalty kick to tie it at 3-3 with about 10 minutes left in regulation, after a Westminster defender committed a hand ball in the box.

Junior Dong-gi Shin and freshman Jose Henriquez also had goals for the Mustangs (5-1).

Freshman Jacob Lux and senior Rodolfo Lara added assists and senior goalie Irvin Dorantes had three saves.

Costa Mesa plays host to Rancho Alamitos Wednesday at Estancia High at 4:45 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Juniors Sami Feinstein and Marisol Hucicochea both scored and Alex Krohnfeldt had an assist as the Mustangs produced their third shutout of the season in the nonleague home match at Estancia High.

Freshman Hayley Smith had two first-half saves and junior Brittany Stair played the second half in goal without having to touch the ball.

Costa Mesa, which lost to Warren, 3-1, and tied Montebello, 0-0, Saturday in the Bellflower Tournament, is 3-2-2.

Mustangs Coach Dan Johnston said Century goalie Leslie Vasquez was impressive, posing some spectacular point-blank stops among her nine saves.

Mesa meets Corona del Mar today at 5 p.m. at Estancia.

NEWPORT COAST — Junior Mark Loper scored a season-high 19 points and added seven rebounds and seven assists for the host Lightning in the nonleague game Monday.

Senior Frank Shapiro had 10 points for the winners (4-2).

Senior Kevin Schaefer had nine and junior TJ Danner added eight for Sage, which visits Arshag Dickranian of Los Angeles on Friday.

COSTA MESA — Kohl Jones and Wes Shaw had 20 points apiece for the host Eagles in the nonleague contest Monday.

Estancia (6-2) never led in overtime after losing its lead late in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles open the Fairmont Prep Tournament Wednesday against Walnut.
