Smith tabbed Co-MVP
Senior setter Madie Smith earned a share of the Pacific Coast League MVP award after helping the Corona del Mar High girls’ volleyball team win its fourth straight league title.
Smith, who shared the league’s top award with Beckman’s Lydia Bai, led the Sea Kings (30-7, 10-0 in league) to the CIF Southern Section II-AA championship match for the second straight season.
Smith totaled an Orange County-best 1,098 assists, and finished with 254 digs, 182 kills, 23 service aces and 23 blocks. Smith is a repeat first-team selection.
Also representing CdM on the first team were seniors Amanda Nickel and Sydney Brombal, and juniors Morgan Boukather and Claire Ham.
Nickel finished with 177 kills, 32 aces, 31 digs and 30 blocks.
Brombal contributed 233 kills, 240 digs, 51 aces and 17 blocks.
Boukather recorded a team-best 307 kills, and finished with 58 digs, 55 aces, 48 blocks and 32 assists.
Ham had 228 kills, 64 blocks, 41 digs and 33 aces.
On the second team were juniors Katelyn Baker and Hailey Senske.
