Costa Mesa police have arrested the man they say is responsible for a stabbing last month.

On Tuesday afternoon, police arrested Patrick Frank Medelez, 20, of Costa Mesa, on West Coast Highway in Newport Beach after following him from Costa Mesa.

He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder for the 1 a.m. attack outside a home on Walnut Street in Costa Mesa on Nov. 22.

Police said Medelez got into an argument with a 28-year-old Irvine man outside the house.

The two were visiting a mutual friend when they took their argument outside, said Lt. Paul Dondero.

Medelez allegedly stabbed the man several times in the torso and arms then ran off.

The victim was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with non-life-threatening injuries.

He has since been released and is recovering from his wounds, Dondero said.

Sheriff’s department records show that Medelez is being held in Orange County Jail without bail.
