Utility player Max Bergeson and driver Michael Liao were named Pacific Coast League Co-MVPs after the seniors led the Corona del Mar High boys’ water polo team to an undefeated league championship season.

The left-handed Bergeson was the league’s Player of the Year in 2008. He shares it with Liao after the duo helped CdM (24-6, 5-0 in league) reach the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs after three straight quarterfinal appearances.

Bergeson led all Newport-Mesa scorers with 93 goals, and he finished with 47 steals and 24 assists. He went six for eight on five-meter penalty shots.
