Pump replacement affecting traffic

Orange County has begun replacing a 70-year-old sewage pumping station at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort in Newport Beach, which will affect traffic on West Coast Highway through next summer.

In a notice posted by the Orange County Sanitation District, officials announced that the bay club pump station will be replaced with a new one across the street at 1800 W. Coast Hwy. Workers will leave two traffic lanes open for cars in each direction, though more lanes will be closed during pipe installation. Parking and left turns will be limited.

County officials said that because of the station’s location, it makes more sense to replace the station altogether instead of giving it upgrades that will have to be more frequently maintained.
