It is a universally acknowledged truth that there always is at least one person forgotten in the mad rush to procure holiday presents. Here are our local picks for your last-minute acquisitions.

FOR THE BIBLIOPHILE

It’s the best of times and the worst of times: The Borders Books & Music at 1890 Newport Blvd., Costa Mesa is closing. As of press time, calendars were 50% off; toys, gifts and stationery were 40% off; and most books were 30% off. Although the store is starting to resemble a child’s messy room, there are plenty of bargains still to be had. The Borders store at Metro Pointe will remain open. Information: (949) 631-8661.

FOR THE DOMESTIC DIVA

If there’s someone in your life who would give Martha Stewart a run for her money, consider finding them a gift at South Coast Plaza pop-up store Home, Holidays & Traditions. Located near Bloomingdale’s, the store is filled to the gills with holiday and home décor from companies like Christopher Radko and Dept. 56, and also boasts ornament personalization. FOR THE HIPSTER

The thought of buying them a present intimidates you, because you’ve never heard of the films they like and you have no idea where they find their supremely ironic T-shirts. Your best bet in this case is a trip to Swellegant Vintage, 3409 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach. One of the best vintage shops in the county, the shop’s collection is well-edited and, well, swellegant. Information: (949) 673-3604.

FOR THE SHOE ADDICT

Need a pair of Louboutins in a hurry? Lanis, 270 E. 17th St. Suite 4, Costa Mesa, is the brainchild of Stephanie Hsu, who took her business background and paired it with her love for beautiful accessories. She hand-picks the best looks of the season, and offers personalized service to boot. Information: (949) 515-3888.

FOR THE HEDONIST

Most locals know that one of the best places to find their favorite vice, be it chocolate, cigars or Cabernet, is Hi-Time Wine Cellars, 250 Ogle St., Costa Mesa. Fitted into a seemingly endless, cavernous space, Hi-Time boasts the largest temperature controlled underground wine cellar west of the Mississippi River, and a massive collection of all other alcoholic beverages at excellent prices.
