Pet Of the Week

Tootsie

The holiday season’s pet adoption event at Fashion Island has been a fun and special time for kittens to find new homes.

The longhair diluted torti named Tootsie lounges in her holiday decorated adoption cage wearing a festive hat.

“She purrs all the time at home,” says the Allen family representative, whose daughter attends Corona del Mar High School.

Tootsie may be seen in the caregiver’s home this week by calling (949) 759-3646, as the adoption event will be closed for the weekend following the Christmas holiday.

Fashion Island was crowded last weekend, yet management at Russo’s pet store reported a drop in puppy sales, and pet adoption numbers remain low as a sign of the times.

For your information, the 3-year-old dogs Dulce (Shih Tzu) and Vida (Malti-poo) are still available.

We began noticing Community Animal Network’s Fashion Island pet adoption numbers dropping in 2007, as we compared them with a successful weekend of 27 animals finding new homes in July 2006.

To succeed, the rescue efforts will now need funding donations as well as high numbers of pet adoptions.

If you are able to help fund the work with local animals, please call (949) 759-3646 to make a donation using a credit card; or mail your check to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662 Newport Beach, CA, 92658 and memo your check “Shelter Rescue” nonprofit tax ID 33-0971560.
