MALIBU — Sophomore Mikah Maly-Karros amassed a career-high-tying 28 points and a career-best 14 rebounds to lead the Anteaters in the nonconference road game Tuesday.

Maly-Karros, a transfer from Loyola Marymount who was named big West Conference Player of the Week after her first two games and is now averaging 22 points since becoming eligible before the Dec. 15 game at Oregon State, made 10 of 23 field-goal tries and was eight for 10 from the free-throw line.

Senior Rebecca Maessen had 16 points, while senior Keyonna Johnson had six points and six assists.

UCI (3-8) finished 29 for 60 from the field (48.3%), but the Waves were even better, netting 28 of 55 field-goal tries (50.9%), including seven of 11 from three-point range (63.6%).

Pepperdine (9-4) produced 30 points off 26 UCI turnovers.

UCI visits Gonzaga Sunday for a 2 p.m. nonconference clash.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal State San Bernardino 81, Vanguard 61

SAN BERNARDINO — Alex Chapman had 26 points and Elvis Whitelow added 11 points and seven rebounds for the visiting Lions in the nonconference game Tuesday.

Chapman was 10 of 18 from the field, but the rest of the Lions were a combined 13 for 41 (31.7%).

Vanguard visits Golden State Athletic Conference rival The Master’s on Jan. 2.
