The Estancia Coast Classic figures to be a special high school boys’ basketball event this year.

The tournament is in its 25th year. The tourney’s new sponsor hopes to make it a great event. The Newport Harbor-Costa Mesa Lions Club always tries for a good time when it puts on the annual Fish Fry. This time, the Lions Club wants the players to do the cooking.

There are 16 teams in this year’s tournament, including Estancia and Newport Harbor.

Newport Harbor opens the tournament against Long Beach Wilson Saturday at 9 a.m. Estancia will play against Laguna Hills in the first round at 6:15 p.m.

Norco, Vista del Lago of Moreno Valley, St. Margaret’s, Sunny Hills, Schurr, Orange Lutheran, JSerra, Fountain Valley, Aliso Niguel and San Rafael are also in the tournament. Dimond High of Anchorage, Alaska and Kings High of Seattle, Wash. have made the trip to play in Costa Mesa.

The championship is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

LAKE FOREST — Junior Ramon Mejia had 14 points and five steals as the Sea Kings breezed at the Orange County North/South Challenge Wednesday at El Toro High.

Senior Austin Quon added 12 points off the bench for Corona del Mar (7-3). Danny Cheek had 11, while Spencer Haly and Chris Freeman added eight points each.

Point guard Clayton Ragsdale (hamstring) and Parker Stone (back) didn’t play for the Sea Kings, but Coach Ryan Schachter said he hopes both can be back for the St. Ignatius Tournament in San Francisco, in which CdM plays, beginning Saturday.
