Pretrial for man charged with resisting officer

The pretrial is expected to begin Monday for a Huntington Beach man charged with resisting an officer.

Kevin Anastasi pleaded not guilty in May to the misdemeanor and filed a claim with the city in October alleging a Huntington Beach police officer threw him to the ground and choked him until he was unconscious.

A claim is the precursor to a lawsuit.

Anastasi requested an unknown amount of more than $10,000 in damages.

The incident allegedly occurred when Anastasi called 911 after seeing two aggressive and unleashed pit bulls roaming the neighborhood and trying to get into his house.

Lt. Russell Reinhart said he couldn’t comment on the specifics because it is in litigation, but he said Anastasi was uncooperative with both the dispatcher and the officers.

The pretrial is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the West Justice Center in Westminster.
