Costa Mesa artists works displayed in Laguna Beach

Artist Eye Laguna Gallery will feature original paintings by Costa Mesa artist Kay Flierl through Jan. 31, and the gallery will host a reception for Flierl from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Flierl spent 15 years as a graphic artist and was determined to transfer her creative skills to paint. Inspired by her father, who never fully realized his dream of painting, she recognized the same dream within herself.

After discovering a box of acrylic paints and a few brushes her father had tucked away in the basement, she began to paint, according to a news release.

“As an artist, I feel as though I am writing my own biography — each series of paintings visually unraveling another chapter in my life,” Flierl said. “In every idea and every stroke, emotion plays a recurring theme further revealing who I am and compelling me to paint.”

Flierl grew up in Colorado where she says the expansive views, as well as the beauty and the color of the changing landscape, provided both the inspiration for her paintings and her enthusiasm for the outdoors. Both land and people provide material for her canvases, according to a news release.

The gallery is at 1294 S. Coast Hwy., Suite A, Laguna Beach.
