SANTA CLARITA — Diana Neves and Bridgette Reyes scored 22 points each for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Molly Pfohl added 18 points, while Rachel Copeland had 14 points for the Lions (6-1, 2-1 in conference), who were 17 for 17 from the free-throw line.

Annie Gillespie scored 21 points to lead The Master’s (6-5, 1-2), who outrebounded Vanguard, 42-37.

The Lions hit 10 of their 24 three-point attempts, led by Copeland, who was four for nine from beyond the arc.

SANTA BARBARA — The Anteaters rallied from a 27-19 halftime deficit to built a 45-37 lead with 6:08 left in the Big West Conference opener Saturday.

But the host Gauchos went on a 13-0 run to secure the win and improve to 4-9.

UCI (3-10) was led by sophomore Mikah Maly-Karros, who had 20 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

Junior Jade Smith-Williams had 13 points and was three of four from three-point range. But Smith-Williams had 11 of the Anteaters’ 26 turnovers.

UCI shot 29% from the field, just 20.6% in the opening 20 minutes.

UCSB shot 36% from the field and had 25 turnovers.

UCI visits Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Monday at 7 p.m.

SANTA CLARITA — John Chapman scored 14 points for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Greg Scott added 11 points for Vanguard (2-7, 1-2 in conference).

Raphael Harris had 24 points for The Master’s (10-3, 3-0).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Winnipeg

IRVINE — Opposite Carson Clark led all players with 19 kills for the Anteaters, who won the exhibition match, 30-27, 30-27, 22-30, 30-25, Saturday at the Bren Events Center.

Clark also picked up a team-high six digs. Middle blocker Bryan Simmons and outside hitter Kevin Carroll had eight kills each. Anthony Spittle and Jeff Schmitz split time at the setter’s position with Spittle posting 22 assists and Schmitz handing out 20. Kevin Wynne had seven blocks.

The Anteaters open the season at home against Cal Baptist Tuesday at 7 p.m.
