COSTA MESA — Hannah Speer and Ashley DeMarzo scored five goals each for the Mustangs in the nonleague game Wednesday.

DeMarzo also had five steals, while Speer finished with four steals and three assists. Taylor Ives scored four goals and had one steal.

Nicole Tfaye, who scored one goal, led Costa Mesa with six steals. Sydney Rosello had four steals, two assists and one goal, while Monica Folkerts had two goals, one steal and one assist. Goalie Danielle Bowen recorded five saves.

NEWPORT BEACH — Sophomore Brandon Hayden scored the Sailors’ lone win, which came by forfeit in the 135-pound division, in their Sunset League opener Wednesday.

Newport Harbor (5-6) will compete in the Godinez individual tournament Friday.
