Art center needs more education volunteers

The Huntington Beach Art Center is looking for volunteers to help with its youth programs.

The center needs people to take its art outreach programs to school and assist with art workshops, educational programs, fundraising and membership activities.

Some of the programs volunteers assist with are Artsy Sunday, a free art workshop, and Family Arts Day, which drew more than 500 people.

Educational Coordinator Luisa Cohrs said the volunteers will be working mostly with children, and no background in art is necessary.

The center is owned by the city and a private nonprofit, and holds different community outreach programs, private classes and showcases.

All volunteers must be fingerprinted, and resumes are encouraged. Cohrs said students without work experience can put their travel experiences or favorite books on their resumes. Volunteers are typically 15 and older. Call (714) 374-1650.
