SANTA BARBARA — Sophomore Carson Clark had a match-high 20 kills and three aces to lead the No. 2-ranked Anteaters to a 26-30, 30-26, 30-21, 30-26 win in the fifth-place match of the UC Santa Barbara/Elephant Bar Tournament Friday.

Clark made the all-tournament team.

Sophomore outside hitter Kevin Carroll had 14 kills, two aces and four blocks, while junior setter Jeff Schmitz totaled 52 assists for UCI (3-1). Libero Kevin Welch, a Corona del Mar High product, recorded a team-best eight digs.

Long Beach State, ranked No. 7, dropped to 1-2. Cal State Northridge won the tournament with a 30-25, 31-29, 30-32, 30-19 victory over BYU.

UCI will play host to No. 4-ranked Pepperdine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.

MISSION VIEJO — Samantha Hansen scored 15 points for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

Amanda Deal added five points, while Alyssa Hanson and Michelle Lewis had five rebounds each for OCC (12-7, 1-1 in conference).

The Gauchos are 10-10, 0-2.

OCC plays host to Santa Ana Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
