A Costa Mesa man already implicated in the rape of a teenage girl in July was back in court Monday on new charges of raping another woman in October.

Jaime Zamora Ramirez, 40, is charged with two counts of rape with a sentencing enhancement for raping more than one person. With the additional charge, Ramirez’s potential sentence, if convicted, leaps from eight years and eight months in prison for the one attack to 60 years to life for both crimes. Ramirez has a prior strike from a 1992 vehicular manslaughter conviction.

Ramirez is accused of going to his female friend’s home Oct. 12 and sexually assaulting her. Prosecutors said he went there and asked for a beer and after leaving briefly, returned and raped her.

Ramirez was arrested in July, days after police said he raped a 17-year-old who worked with him at First Class Cleaners in Fountain Valley. In that incident, police said Ramirez, who was a manager, told an employee to have the girl come to his home to pick up some paperwork at the end of the day.

When the girl got to Ramirez’s home, he raped her and threatened to turn her in to immigration authorities if she told anyone, prosecutors said. The girl told her co-workers and then police, prosecutors said.

Ramirez continued his arraignment on all charges to Jan. 28. He is being held in lieu of $1-million bail.
