Mailbag:
Just by way of observation, Melva Glavas (“Gov. disappoints supporter,†Jan. 8) was the wife of the late Newport Beach Police Chief Jim Glavas who came to us from the Los Angeles Police Department and was, in the opinion of many, a great leader and, for me, a wonderful and respected friend and a fellow Mason. He was a great loss to our community.
Martin Brower (“Gov. disappoints supporter,†Jan. 8) was associated with the Irvine Co. for many years and has a column in COAST magazine dealing with real estate developments in Orange County. Little wonder that he would see an end to what Glavas so clearly recognizes as an ongoing benefit to the community if the Orange County Fairgrounds are left to carry on without interference from Sacramento.
I couldn’t agree more, and thank you, Melva, for a great letter.

Supervisor misses point of buses
Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach should resign from the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Board of Directors.
He does not represent the millions of riders on the OCTA “big†bus system, many of whom travel to Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. He has suggested we may not need a bus system, and with the drivers’ contract ending in a few months, would probably like to replace these experienced and safe drivers with people who would be furnished by a driver’s service or new drivers paid wages that are difficult to live on. Moorlach should be active in helping to improve Orange County’s economy and thereby make the bus system even more important as people go to work, play and take their families from place to place.
