Don’t put away that umbrella just yet.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday’s few raindrops were nothing compared to what could be in store for next week.

With fair weather in the high 60s to low 70s through Saturday, the weather service is predicting a quick change Sunday.

In a special weather advisory issued Wednesday afternoon and posted online, weather experts said that Wednesday’s weather system will turn off shore today but will still bring some gusty winds. The system was a precursor for predicted heavier storms from the early part to middle of next week.

Next week’s weather could also offer fresh snow to the mountains.

On top of that, local body boarders and surfers can expect a fourth straight weekend of great surf, said lifeguard Battalion Chief Jim Turner.

Lifeguards have had to call in extra people to man the towers, as surfers flock to the beach to catch the strong swell combined with unusually high tides.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning and high surf warning, thanks to the waves and tides that could erode the lower parts of Orange County shores. Newport Beach will continue to see consistent 4- to 6-foot-tall waves through the weekend, Turner said.

The Orange County Health Care Agency has issued a water quality warning for the 33rd Street Channel that will remain in effect until at least Friday.
