Zumwalt honored for defensive play
Edison High senior Jordan Zumwalt has been named the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Divison Defensive Player of the Year in football.
Zumwalt, a linebacker, had a team-high 164 tackles for the Chargers (12-1). The Stanford verbal commit had 20 or more tackles in three games for the Sunset League champions.
Other offensive team selections included Fountain Valley senior running back Kyle Middlebrooks (1,875 rushing yards, 23 touchdowns); Edison senior quarterback Matt Viles (2,948 yards, 28 touchdowns); Edison senior receiver Jeff Trojan (879 yards, seven touchdowns) and Chargers senior center Roman Sapolu.
On the defensive side of the ball, Edison defensive back Luke Eddy, defensive end Charles Burks and punter Markus Trujillo earned All-CIF honors.
All-CIF Southwest Division
Huntington Beach High senior Kaller Roemer earned All-CIF Southwest Division offensive honors. Roemer, a receiver, finished with 70 catches for 975 yards and seven touchdowns. Also a defensive back, he helped the Oilers (7-5) advance to the second round of playoffs for the first time since 1993.

Ocean View senior offensive lineman Kody Afusia was named to the All-CIF Southern Division offensive team.
