SANTA BARBARA — Newport Harbor High finished second after a 6-5 loss to Dos Pueblos of Goleta in the championship match Saturday.

Goalie Krissy Burger led the defense with 13 saves, including a blocked penalty shot against Kiley Neushul.

The Sailors (12-2), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I, played without senior Kaleigh Gilchrist, who scored three goals in a 6-3 win over Los Alamitos in the semifinals.

Gilchrist did not play in the final because she had to catch a flight headed to New Zealand. She will compete with the USA surf team in the Quiksilver International Surfing Assn. World Junior Championships Monday through Jan. 28.

Kailyn Obenauer led Newport Harbor with two goals and two steals in the final. Kate Klippert, Katie Jackson and Colleen McCall added one goal each.

Neushul scored four goals to lead the undefeated Chargers, ranked No. 1 in CIF Divsion I.

Gilchrist and Klippert were named to the all-tournament team.

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar High finished fourth after losing to Los Alamitos, 8-2, Saturday.

Victoria Kent and Ally McCormick scored one goal each for the Sea Kings (11-6). Goalie Alex Musselman had nine saves. She had three saves in a 10-6 loss to Dos Pueblos in the semifinals.

Cassidy Papa led CdM with two goals against the Chargers. Margot Money, Maddie Schwartz, Diana Murphy and McCormick had one goal each. Money was named to the all-tournament team.

NEWPORT COAST — Ava Soleimany had 12 points and four steals for the Lightning in their Academy League game Friday.

Sage Hill (7-6, 2-2 in league) plays at St. Margaret’s Friday at 6 p.m.
