Sea Kings help with shoe drive

For those who want to catch one of the hottest high school boys’ basketball teams in Orange County for $1, they can Friday night.

Corona del Mar is teaming up with Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization, in a shoe drive for victims of last week’s devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti. Coach Ryan Schachter said a pair of shoes, new or used, will result in a $1 admission into the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League home game against Beckman at 7 p.m.

“We’re just asking everyone to bring in shoes to donate to the victims,” said Schachter, whose Sea Kings (16-3, 4-0 in league), ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division III-A coaches’ poll, have won 10 straight games. “It’s something that I wanted to do.”
