SAN CLEMENTE — Newport Harbor High senior Rene Escolero earned third place in the 215-pound division at San Clemente High Saturday.

He went 3-1 in the tournament.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Kailyn Obenauer scored two goals for the Sailors in the nonleague game Saturday.

Senior Katie Jackson produced two assist, two steals and one goal for Newport Harbor (13-3), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

The Sailors were without USC-bound senior Kaleigh Gilchrst, who is in New Zealand competing in the International Surfing Assn. World Junior Championships.

UC Berkeley-bound senior Kate Klippert, who scored one goal, fouled out in the third quarter.

Newport Harbor nearly forced overtime. Senior Colleen McCall, headed to USC, shot after stealing a rebound, but time expired before the ball went into the cage. She had three steals.

Palos Verdes is ranked No. 2 in CIF Division II.
