Paddle out for surfer is Sunday
Friends and family will paddle out off the Ventura coast Sunday in memory of Gregory Gladstone, 38, the surfer and father of two who was found floating unresponsive in local waters last weekend.
Surfers found Gladstone’s board floating near 14th Street Saturday morning, when waves were reaching 6 to 10 feet high.
Shortly after, lifeguards found the Newport Beach resident’s body.
Gladstone was confirmed dead at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian at 11:01 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Orange County sheriff-coroner’s office, the autopsy is complete, but officials are unable to determine a cause of death until they run all other tests, including a toxicology report.
The tests could take two weeks.
The Greg Gladstone Memorial Paddle Out will take place at 4 p.m. at Ventura’s Marina Park, as reported by Orangecounty.com.
A celebration of his life will take place Feb. 3 at the American Legion Post No. 291, at 215 E. 15th St. in Newport Beach, according to the Pacific View Mortuary.
Condolences may be paid to Gladstone by donating to his children’s education fund. Schools First Federal Credit Union can accept checks made to “In Memory of Gregory Gladstone.”
