MEN’S GOLF

Anteater Invitational

COSTA MESA — UC Irvine senior John Chin is the individual leader at 11-under-par 131 after rounds of 66 and 65 completed Monday at Mesa Verde Country Club.

Chin is six shots ahead of Nick Delio from Cal State Northridge heading into the final 18 holes, scheduled today.

UCI junior Shaun O’Meara (72-72) and freshman Mickey Chan (71-73) are tied for 16th at 144, and freshman Jerry He is 26th at 146 (75-71).

UCI is third in the team standings (568), trailing Santa Clara (14-under 554) and Northridge (567).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Hawaii def. UC Irvine

HONOLULU — Carson Clark and Jordan DuFault had 21 kills apiece for the Anteaters, who fell, 30-26, 32-30, 26-30, 20-30, 15-11, in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Saturday night.

DuFault, a junior outside hitter, also posted a team-high 13 digs and six total blocks as then-No. 7-ranked UCI fell to 5-6, 1-5 in conference.

Junior setter Anthony Spittle had 69 assists.

Hawaii, ranked No. 9 last week, is now 6-3, 4-2.

Long Beach Tournament

LONG BEACH — The Orange Coast College men finished third in the event, completed Saturday at Long Beach City College.

OCC went 3-0 in pool play with sweeps of Grossmont, Utah Valley State and Pierce.

The Pirates then topped Moorpark in the quarterfinals, before falling to Long Beach in the semifinals.

Brad Hemmerling, a transfer from Long Beach State, led OCC with 27 kills overall.

Middle blocker Jeff Patton had 17 kills and led the team with 11 total blocks.

MEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 4,

San Francisco 3

IRVINE — Sophomore Sam Gould won in singles and doubles to lead the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Sunday.

Gould defeated Asaf Cohen, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, then teamed with Steven Henderson to post an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, helping UCI (3-1) win the doubles point.

Zac Tsai (No. 4) and Khunpol Issara (No. 6) also posted singles wins for the ’Eaters

Shimpei Suzuki and Jon Kazarian also won in doubles for UCI. USF fell to 1-1.
