Miss Fountain Valley pageant postponed

The Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship Pageant has been postponed from March until November as organizers continue to seek sponsors and contestants.

The annual pageant, which started in 1964, was discontinued in 1991 and hasn’t been held since. Last year, local businesswoman Amy Hart announced her intention to restart the pageant, and Mayor Larry Crandall, the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce and other leaders joined her in seeking sponsors for the event.

However, a lack of contestants led the organizers to push the pageant’s date to Nov. 13, Crandall said. If the pageant is held then, the winner will be eligible for the 2011 Miss California competition.

“There weren’t enough contestants so far, so they felt it was better to have it for 2011 than 2010, and there’s more time to put it together for 2011,” Crandall said.

Contestants must be women between the ages of 17 and 24 who live, work or go to school in Fountain Valley.
