MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. BYU

IRVINE — The No. 11-ranked Anteaters, snapped a six-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation losing streak by defeating the No. 3-ranked Cougars, 34-32, 30-26, 30-23, in front of 1,458 at the Bren Events Center Friday.

Junior outside hitter Jordan DuFault had 15 kills and a .379 hitting percentage, while sophomore opposite Carson Clark added 14 kills to help UCI improve to 6-7, 2-6 in conference.

Junior setter Anthony Spittle had 44 assists for the winners.

BYU fell to 7-4, 5-3.

BASEBALL

Cal State East Bay 0

COSTA MESA — Four Lions drove in runs and pitcher Bryce Reid worked five shutout innings in the nonconference game shortened due to rain Friday at Vanguard.

Reid allowed four hits, struck out four and walked two as Vanguard improved to 3-0.

Jacob Dominguez was one for one with a run batted in, while Eric Kryzysiak, Brandon Pesante and Kip Masuda also had RBIs for the winners.

Cal State East Bay is 0-2.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Orange Coast 87,

Santa Ana 70

SANTA ANA — Brandon Gee led four Pirates in double figures with 21 points in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday at Santa Ana.

Gee had seven of OCC’s 15 three-pointers as the Pirates tried 37 of their 75 shots from beyond the arc.

Chad Delaney (17 points), Jake Fedro (15) and Chris Curtis (14) also led the way.

Curtis had nine rebounds.

OCC is now 10-14, 4-5 in conference.

The Dons are 9-13, 1-7.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Orange Coast 62,

Santa Ana 46

SANTA ANA — Freshman Samantha Hansen had 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots in just 25 minutes to lead the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

Michelle Yamasaki added 12 points off the bench.

OCC is now 14-12, 3-6 in conference.

Santa Ana is 6-16, 0-8.

BASEBALL

COSTA MESA — The remaining two games of the Orange Coast College-Cuesta nonconference series were postponed due to rain.
