Matthews earns honor

UC Irvine sophomore Fabian Matthews was recently named Big West Conference Co-Athlete of the Week in men’s tennis.

Matthews, a Corona del Mar High product, went 1-1 on the week and was instrumental in UCI’s 4-3 upset at San Diego State. He shares the award this week with Lucas Sudow of UC Santa Barbara.

This is the second career Athlete of the Week honor for Matthews.

The Anteaters play host to UC Santa Barbara Sunday at 11 a.m.

Eagles hold camp

The Estancia High basketball program is welcoming boys and girls grades first through eighth to its President’s Recess Basketball Camp.

The camp will take place at Estancia High’s main gym Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $50 per person, and includes a T-shirt. Registration is available on the first day of the clinic.
