Amigos name new president

Jennifer Robins, a longtime member of the environmental nonprofit Amigos de Bolsa Chica, has been named the group’s new president through 2012.

Robins served as vice president the last two years under President David Carlberg. She became involved with the environmental community as a college student in the 1970s, she said, and later became active with Sea & Sage Audubon Society.

“I have some big shoes to fill as I look back at all the strong leaders who have served as president since 1976,” Robins said in an e-mail. “Amigos continues to strongly support educating the public about the importance of wetlands to our ecosystem. And I continue to see that as a local issue that supports the global communities.”

Amigos is one of several local environmental groups, including the Bolsa Chica Land Trust and Bolsa Chica Conservancy, that has worked for years to protect the wetlands by Huntington Beach.
