Man who claimed brutality back in court

A Huntington Beach man charged with resisting an officer is expected to continue preliminary trial Monday before his jury trial begins at the end of the month.

Kevin Anastasi pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge in May and has filed a claim with the city over the incident allegedly police brutality. A claim is the precursor to a lawsuit.

According to the claim, a Huntington Beach police officer threw Anastasi to the ground and choked him until he was unconscious in October.

The incident allegedly occurred when Anastasi called 911 after seeing two aggressive and unleashed pit bulls roaming the neighborhood and trying to get into his house.

Anastasi requested an unknown amount of more than $10,000 in damages.

The preliminary trial is expected to continue at 8:30 a.m. Monday in Courtroom W-2 at the West Justice Center in Westminster, and the jury trial is expected to begin March 22.
