Continental to offer Oahu, Maui flights

Continental Airlines will begin flights from John Wayne Airport to Oahu and Maui on Sunday, starting the first non-stop service to the islands since Aloha Airlines went bankrupt and shut down in 2008.

Travelers will have four flights per week to Maui’s Kahului Airport, with plans to increase the service to daily this summer. Continental will also fly once daily from Orange County to Honolulu International Airport.

These new flights are part of an expansion of the airline’s Hawaii service — it is also adding a daily flight from LAX to Maui.

“We are excited to launch more service to Hawaii,” Jim Compton, vice president of marketing at Continental, said in a statement. “The new flights to Maui complement our existing service to Honolulu, providing our customers more travel options to Hawaii.”

The company will fly Boeing 737s on all the flights.
