Orloff leaving OCC
Scott Orloff, the defensive coordinator for the Orange Coast College football team the last four seasons, has left the Pirates to become head coach at Trabuco Hills High, OCC Coach Mike Taylor confirmed Monday.
Taylor said John Young, whose second tenure as an OCC assistant began last season when he guided the linebackers, will take over as defensive coordinator.
Taylor said Young will also tutor the secondary in 2010 and Taylor will coach the linebackers.
Orloff, a former prep head coach at Dana Hills and Santa Ana Valley, came to OCC in 2002 as the secondary coach. He was known for his fiery sideline presence and was very popular with the players.
“He did a good job and we’re going to miss him,” Taylor said of Orloff, whose defense ranked No. 3 in the state last season in fewest rushing yards allowed.
In 2007, OCC ranked No. 7 in the state in total defense and was ranked No. 8 in scoring defense in 2006.
Young, a teacher at Saddleback High, where he coached for close to two decades, first coached the secondary at OCC from 1992 through 1996.
