IRVINE — Senior Kyle Necke allowed no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings for his second straight solid start, but did not factor in the decision in the nonconference game Tuesday at UCI.

Kyle Hooper, Evan Brock, Andy Lines and Christian Bergman combined for 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings to help UCI improve to 7-5.

Brian Hernandez and Jordan Leyland had two hits and two runs batted in for the ’Eaters, who also received two hits each from Francis Larson, Ronnie Shaeffer and Cory Olson.

UCI scored two in the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and added two in the eighth.

USD is 6-7.

COSTA MESA — The host Pirates led, 9-3, after five innings and held on in the Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday.

Kevin Cho went three for four with two runs batted in to pace a 15-hit attack for OCC (9-6, 2-2 in conference), for which every starter had at least one hit.

Kyle Krogman pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.

IVC is 6-10, 0-4.

COSTA MESA — Melissa Forrester and Katharine Jablonski combined on a four-hit shutout for the host Lions in the opener of the Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

Stephanie Leisenring, Angela St. Croix and Amanda Omahen had three hits on the day for the Lions (11-9, 1-3 in conference).

Concordia is 15-7, 2-2.

MEN’S GOLF

Fresno State tournament

FRESNO — UC Irvine’s John Chin lost in a playoff to finish second and help the Anteaters finish seventh as a team in the Fresno State Lexus Classic, completed Tuesday at San Joaquin Country Club.

Chin shot five-under-par 66 in the final round to finish at five-under 208. He lost to Robbie Fillmore on the first playoff hole.

BYU also won the 54-hole team tournament.

MEN’S TENNIS

COSTA MESA — Brad Fisher and Kevin Tran won 12 of 13 singles games to pace the nonconference sweep for the host Pirates (10-1) on Tuesday.

Jesse Chen won 12 of 15 singles games for OCC.
