CORONA DEL MAR — Jaycee Olsen, Melanie Powers and Leila Pozin won two events each for the Sea Kings in the Battle of the Bay Wednesday at Coroan del Mar High.

Olsen set a new school record in the discus, winning with a mark of 132 feet, 10 inches, and she won the shot put (35-4 1/2 ).

Powers won the 1,600 meters (5 minutes, 17.8 seconds) and the 3,200 (11:06.2). Pozin won the 100 hurdles (19 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (50.7).

Gwen Gaylord and Melissa Hancock won two events each for the Sailors.

Gaylord won the 100 (12.8) and the 200 (27.1). Hancock won the high jump (5-2) and the long jump (15-5 1/4 ).

CORONA DEL MAR — Blake Myers, Austin Blodgett and Ian Klug won two events each for the Sea Kings in the Battle of the Bay Wednesday at Corona del Mar High.

Meyers won the 800 in 2 minutes, 3.7 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:40.7. Blodgett took first place in the 110 hurdles (16.5) and the 300 hurdles (42.4). Klug won the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and the long jump (17-10 1/2 ).

Jake Taylor won the shot put (53-6) for the Sailors and Taylor Lawrence won the discus (147-0).

BOYS’ GOLF

Estancia 189, Orange 272

COSTA MESA — Eagles sophomore Jake Knapp sank four birdies and an eagle to finish five-under-par 30 for medalist honors in the Golden West League match at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course Wednesday.

Knapp nearly scored 29, as he missed a five-foot birdie putt to close out his round.

Jake Stone and Ryan Burns each shot 38 to give Estancia (1-5, 1-2 in league) its first win of the season. Jordan Young shot 41 and Aaron Wood 42.

Dana Hills 197

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Mike Moorhead, Steve Bruno and Josh Starnes each shot two-over-par 38 for the Sea Kings in the nonleague match at El Niguel Golf Course Wednesday.

John Davenport and Jonathan Keedy both shot 39 for CdM (3-1), which plays against Dana Hills today.

BASEBALL

Costa Mesa 11, Santa Ana 2

SANTA ANA — Mustangs junior pitcher P.J. Maloney gave his solid outing a boost by going four for five with three runs, three stolen bases and one run batted in a Costa Mesa Division consolation game of the Newport Elks Tournament.

Maloney struck out four and gave up two runs and six hits in six innings. Senior Jesse Fox was three for four with three RBIs for Costa Mesa (2-2), which plays again Friday.

Sage Hill 9, Godinez 6

SANTA ANA — Michael Yorita went two for three with five runs batted in and two runs for the Lightning in a Newport Elks Tournament game Tuesday.

Dusty Orrantia went two for four, while pitcher Allen Brown struck out six and gave up four hits and two runs in four innings to earn the win.

Sage Hill beat Buena Park, 5-3, on Friday in a Newport Elks Tournament game.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Saddleback def. Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA — Senior Connor Metcalfe had 21 kills and senior Corbin Randall had 17 kills for the Mustangs in their season opener Wednesday.

Saddleback won, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13.

Setter Jose Faberino had 45 assists for Costa Mesa.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Woodbridge 18, Sage Hill 0

NEWPORT BEACH — The Lightning suffered their worst loss in the program’s history at The Tennis Club Wednesday.

Sage Hill dropped to 0-6.

“A pretty embarrassing effort,” Lightning Coach A.G. Longoria said. “We apparently have a lot of work to do.”
