Doubleheader
COSTA MESA — Pitchers Brandon Godfrey and Jason Dovel stood out in leading Vanguard to 5-1 and 3-2 Golden State Athletic Conference wins over San Diego Christian Thursday.
Godfrey (4-0) opened by striking out five, while giving up two hits, two walks and no runs in seven innings. Dovel (3-0) was just as strong in the 3-2 win. He struck out three, and allowed six hits and one earned run in 7 1/3 innings.
Eric Krzysiak and Kip Masuda both went two for two in the 5-1 win, while Zachary Leighton, Tyson Leighton and Keegan Freeman had one run batted in each in the second game for the Lions (18-2, 9-1 in conference). San Diego Christian dropped to 1-12, 1-9.

IRVINE — Yannick Lepage, Jesse Chen and Kevin Tran won in singles for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference match Thursday.
OCC (11-1, 5-1) swept in doubles.

COSTA MESA — Melissa Boyer, Anna Walinowicz, Nicole Naughton, Heather Wong and Nicole Rorick won in singles for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference match Thursday.
Naughton and Walinowicz won in doubles before the match was called due to darkness.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
UCLA 8, UC Irvine 5
IRVINE — Senior Kat Plummer had two goals for the No. 13-ranked Anteaters in a nonconference game Thursday.
Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Vickers, a Newport Harbor High product, had seven saves for UCI (7-10).
Heather Van Hiel, a former Corona del Mar standout, scored one goal for the No. 4-ranked Bruins.
UCI will play host to Bucknell March 20 at 7 p.m.
