Student booked after high school bomb scare

The student who was found with a suspicious-looking device that led to an evacuation at Huntington Beach High School on March 3 has been booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall.

According to Lt. Russell Reinhart of the Huntington Beach Police Department, the male student was booked on suspicion of possession of a facsimile of a bomb and making criminal threats. A residence in the 2400 block of Delaware Street was searched after the incident.

The student, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, was sent to the principal’s office about 9:30 a.m. March 3 after he was reported to have fireworks. Administrators found another device in his possession and contacted the police and Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The department’s bomb squad examined the device while students and staff were evacuated. Jim Amormino, a sheriff’s spokesman, said the device turned out to be a “hoax” and contained no explosives.
