Millionaire takes a chance on Bravo

On one episode of Bravo’s “Millionaire Matchmaker,” a Newport Beach bachelor was searching for love in all the wrong places.

Mateo Stasior is an original Microsoft millionaire, bumping elbows with guys like Bill Gates. The first 10 minutes of the episode shows Mateo typing away on the sand at his beachfront home and pulling up to valet at Newport Beach Tennis Club. All he needs is the perfect partner for his posh life.

In his audition tape, Mateo left no stone unturned. From her love past to her looks, the Harvard grad had all his stats straight on the girl of his dreams. What made the top of the list?

“The key to me is that the woman is a Christian,” he said. “I want to find someone that’s Christian and that wants to raise a Christian family.”

At the mixer Mateo goes right for Andrea, a 30-something brunette with a positive outlook, but he was careful to stay on topics that avoid his No. 1 priority, faith. Of course, when Mateo found out she was Jewish, he avoided the suggestion of moving on and decided to “take a chance.”

During their romantic date at the Los Alamitos Race Course, viewers wondered why Mateo was so open-minded. Is he open to dating another faith, or will conversion come up over coffee?

He asked Andrea to tell him more about her faith, and she immediately opened up. “That’s my heritage. I would never want to convert.”

Even more uncomfortable was Mateo’s response. “I believe that the path is through Jesus Christ, and I’m really strong in that belief.”

Although it was apparent they weren’t on the same spiritual path, he even went on to ask what religion their children would be raised. Judaism is passed through the female line, so Andrea responded, “I’m a woman. They’re going to be Jewish.”

It could be that their mutual passion and spirituality brought them together, but it’s also what pushed them apart. Set in their ways, it doesn’t look like Mateo will be attending Seder any time soon, nor will Andrea be pushing a plate of bacon.
