SACRAMENTO — Visiting UC Irvine tied it in the top of the ninth and Ryan Fisher hit a game-winning home run in the 10th Saturday to help the No. 16-ranked Anteaters win the three-game baseball series and improve to 9-6.
UCI senior starter Eric Pettis allowed one earned run on six hits in nine innings to improve to 2-0 and senior Kyle Necke worked a scoreless 10th for his second save.
Pettis struck out four and threw 121 pitches.
Brian Hernandez had three hits, while Fisher, Casey Stevenson and Ronnie Shaeffer had two apiece for UCI, which plays host to San Diego on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Francis Larson, Hernandez and Shaeffer had consecutive two-out singles in the ninth to allow UCI to avert the loss.
It was the team-leading third homer of the season for Fisher.
The Hornets saw their record fall to 5-8.

Canyons Invitational
VALENCIA — Freshman Ryan Knapp shot two-over-par 74 to finish fifth and lead Orange Coast College to a runner-up finish Monday at the Valencia Country Club.
OCC finished 11 shots behind host Canyons, as Benny Santa Maria (76), Joe Doody (77) and Tyler Paul (78) also stood out.

COSTA MESA — The No. 6-ranked Lions dominated the visitors Monday to improve to 5-4.
Sandro Bucher and Mark Tarjan earned 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively for the Lions.
Amherst fell to 2-3.
UC Irvine 4, Marquette 3
IRVINE — Fabian Matthews, a Corona del Mar High product, and Sam Gould dominated at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, for the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Sunday.
UCI (11-4) won two of three matches to claim the doubles point.
Zac Tsai and Steven Henderson, as well as the tandem of Nick Northcott and Jon Kazarian posted doubles wins for the ’Eaters.
