Reyes an All-American

Vanguard University senior Bridgette Reyes has been named to the 10-player NAIA State Farm Coaches’ All-American team for women’s basketball.

Reyes, a 5-foot-7 combo guard, helped lead the Lions to a share of the Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season title and the GSAC Tournament championship.

She was named GSAC Player of the Year. She scored 18 points to lead the Lions to a 68-66 win over Westmont in the GSAC Tournament championship game March 8.

Reyes leads Vanguard (25-2) in three statistical categories. Entering this week’s NAIA Division I National Tournament, she averages 20.3 points per game. She also has 166 assists and 51 steals.

She averages 4.7 rebounds per game.

As a junior, Reyes was named to the All-GSAC team.The Lions, who ended the regular season ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, will play against Lindsey Wilson (20-11) of Kentucky in the first round Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at the Oman Arena In Jackson, Tenn.

Vanguard will play the winner of Bethel (Tenn.) against Columbia (Mo.) Friday at 12:15 p.m.

Vanguard reached the quarterfinals last year and won the national title in 2008.
