Boy claims fire pit burned his foot

A 10-year-old boy from Temecula is asking for more than $500,000 after he allegedly burned the bottom of his foot in a fire pit in Huntington Beach.

Chad Kanow, through his parents, filed a claim March 5 for an unknown amount. A claim is the precursor to a lawsuit.

Chad was at the beach near Brookhurst Street and Pacific Coast Highway, walking to the ocean when he stepped on a fire pit covered with sand about 9:30 a.m. in September, according to the claim.

He suffered second- and third-degree burns from the fire pit, which was still hot, according to the claim.
