Shooting reported late Thursday night in Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa police are investigating a shooting last night in an apartment complex on East Mesa Verde Drive.

At about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, a four-door, tan or green colored car similar to a 90s style Buick pulled up next to a man in the 2700 block of East Mesa Verde Drive, said Lt. Bob Ciszek. A man described as 6-feet, 200 pounds with brown hair in his 20s got out of the car and fired one shotgun round at the victim, Ciszek said.

The victim wasn’t hit and ran away and called police, he said. The round hit a parked car.

“There’s no indication at this point that it’s gang related,” Ciszek said.

He did say the incident did not look random and the attacker and the victim likely knew each other.

The shooting occurred at 2775 East Mesa Verde Drive, an expansive apartment complex adjacent to Adams Avenue near the Costa Mesa Country Club.
