Police: Shooter likely knows target
Costa Mesa police are investigating a Thursday night shooting in an apartment complex at 2775 East Mesa Verde Drive.
About 11:20 p.m., a four-door, tan or green car similar to a 1990s Buick pulled up next to a man in the 2700 block of East Mesa Verde Drive, said Lt. Bob Ciszek.
A man described as 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with brown hair in his 20s got out of the car and fired one shotgun round at the victim, Ciszek said.
The victim, who wasn’t hit, ran away and called police, he said.
The round hit a parked car.
“There’s no indication at this point that it’s gang-related,” Ciszek said.
He did say, however, that the shooting did not look random, and the attacker and the victim likely knew each other.
The shooting occurred in the Villa Venetia, an expansive apartment complex near the Costa Mesa Country Club. An employee at the apartment complex declined to comment Friday.
