SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Starting pitcher Alex Jimenez threw a complete-game shutout with three strikeouts and no walks, while allowing only three hits in the Lightning’s Academy League opener Friday.
Jimenez also contributed offensively going one for two with a three-run double and a run.
Sean Vogel went three for five with two runs and a run batted in, while Patrick Vorwerck hit two for four with three RBIs. Catcher Dusty Orrantia collected an RBI and scored a run in his two-for-four day at the plate.
Sage Hill (4-3) plays host to Oxford Academy Tuesday.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Sophomore pitcher Chase Kapana earned his fourth win with three strikeouts in four innings, while senior Ryan Albert got his second save of the season in the Sailors’ Sunset League opener Friday.
Blake Davey went two for three with a three-run home run. Matt Carpenter hit a solo homer for one of his two hits and Jacob McCann helped sealed the deal, going one for three with two runs batted in for Newport Harbor (8-0).
The Sailors will play at Esperanza Wednesday.

IRVINE — Parker Werline led the Sea Kings’ hitting spree going four for five with three runs batted in and a triple in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League opener Friday.
Will Morrow matched Werline with three RBIs and a triple as well, while going three for five. Beau Attyah went three for four with two RBIs and a double, and Brian Ford produced a triple for one of his two hits.
Andrew McCormack won his second straight appearance with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings.
CdM is 3-5.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Newport Harbor opened pool play Friday with a 25-18, 25-19 sweep of Fountain Valley.
Cody Caldwell and Rusty Sary each had nine kills, while Jackson Carmack had 20 assists.
Orange Lutheran then beat Newport Harbor, 25-18, 24-26, 18-16. Caldwell had 13 kills and Sary had seven kills. Will Connelly added five kills and four blocks.
Newport Harbor continues pool play today against Dana Hills at Fountain Valley.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Corona del Mar went 0-2 in its first day of pool play, losing to Mater Dei and Huntington Beach Friday.
Mater Dei beat the Sea Kings to open the tournament, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9. Weston Nielsen led Sea Kings (4-5) with seven kills.
Huntington Beach beat CdM, 25-23, 21-25, 15-9. Joey Booth had nine kills in the loss at Edison High.
The Sea Kings continue pool play today against Tesoro.

COSTA MESA — Conner Graham and Asher Twardowski were double winners Friday.
Graham won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. While Twardowski was first in the 200 individual medley and 500 free.
Matt Thome swam a personal best to win the 200 free in 2 minutes, 9.25 seconds. This was a six-second drop from the last time he swam it.
Thome also teamed up with Twardoski, Graham and Brooks Watkins to win the 200 medley relay in 1:56.56.
The Eagles (2-3) will next compete at Garden Grove Friday.
