Spring Break Invitational

IRVINE — Charles Jock, Jacob Yowell (men’s) and Vanessa Houston (women’s) stood out for host UC Irvine on Saturday.

Jock won the 800 meters in one minute, 48.42 seconds. Jock also anchored the victorious 4x400 relay (3:13.30) that included George Hernandez, Tim Murphy and Yowell.

Yowell won the 110 high hurdles in 14.49 and the 400 intermediate hurdles in 52.11. Houston topped the field in the 200 in 24.37 and was second in the 100 in 11.94. UCI senior Lauren Collins won the women’s high jump (5 foot, 8 inches).

NEWPORT BEACH — The Pirates swept the varsity and novice races in the season-opening regatta Saturday on the north Lido Channel.

OCC’s varsity eight won on the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 9.2 seconds. USD finished in 6:14.6.

BASEBALL

RIVERSIDE — Danny Lapchak went three four with two runs batted in for the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Saturday.

Jordan Beck was two for three with an RBI, Kris Martin was one for three with three RBIs and Brooklyn Foster was two for five with an RBI for OCC (12-9, 4-5 in conference).

Andy Abrams, who allowed five earned runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 relief innings, absorbed the loss, his first in four decisions this season.

Riverside is 9-9, 6-3.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 11, Bucknell 7

IRVINE — Junior Cortney Collyer had four goals to pace the host Anteaters in the nonconference contest Saturday.

Jessy Cardey, Kelsey Klatt and Caitlin Haskell had two goals apiece for No. 13-ranked UCI (8-10).

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

COSTA MESA — Host Vanguard University dropped both games, 4-2 and 6-1, to Golden State Athletic Conference rival Biola Saturday.

Angela St. Croix was two for three in the opener, while Brittany Parlopino was two for three win a run batted in for the Lions (18-12, 4-6 in conference) in Game 2.
