DUI checkpoint slated for Harbor Blvd.

Costa Mesa police will conduct a DUI checkpoint Saturday night on Harbor Boulevard.

From 8 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday police will be stationed at Harbor and Peterson Place, stopping vehicles and checking drivers who might be under the influence or not have a valid license.

DUI checkpoints are used as a deterrent to drinking and driving, and don’t necessarily lead to more DUI arrests when they’re in effect, police said.

Saturday’s checkpoint is being funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, which requires agencies to notify the public ahead of time about the checkpoints.
