Repertory unveils season

The 2010-11 season at South Coast Repertory includes a Shakespeare classic, a playwright festival, audience favorites and venue premieres to appeal to both old and new patrons of the Costa Mesa institution.

Fan favorites, George Bernard Shaw’s “Misalliance” and Richard Greenberg’s “Three Days of Rain,” bookend the upcoming season.

Both will be brought to life by SCR founders artistic director Martin Benson and producing artistic director David Emmes, respectively.

In addition to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and hosting the 14th annual Pacific Playwrights Festival in 2011, the upcoming season would not be complete without its 31st rendition of the holiday favorite, “A Christmas Carol,” starring Hal Landon Jr. running Nov. 27 through Dec. 26. The festival is not only one of the preeminent festivals of new plays in the nation, but includes five staged readings, and two full, world premiere productions.

News on which plays will be premiered will arrive in the coming months.

The new season also premieres three recent plays by female playwrights, including Annie Baker’s 2009 hit “Circle Mirror Transformation,” Gina Gionfriddo’s Pulitzer finalist “Becky Shaw” and the critically hailed historical comedy “In the Next Room” from Sarah Ruhl.

SCR’s Theatre for Young Audiences returns with three productions for the entire family in the coming year.

The popular “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” is joined by “Peter Pan” and “Lucky Duck,” all on the Julianne Argyros Stage.

While season tickets are available by subscription only at this time, they may also be bought at www.scr.org, (714) 708-5555 or in person at the box office, 655 Town Center Drive. Single tickets will be available to the public beginning Aug. 8.
