A new Lions club forming will involve all cities and communities in Orange County, according to Harbor Mesa Lion Carol Van Holt. The Special Olympics Southern California — Orange County region and Lions District 4-L4 are hoping that parents, friends and interested persons will join this club to support the Special Olympics. Geared to assisting the organization and raising funds for the events, this new club will be associated with the world’s largest service organization, Lions International. The formation meeting will be at 6 p.m. April 7 at the Special Olympics of O.C. office at 2080 North Tustin Ave., Suite B, in Santa Ana. For more information, call (714) 564-8374 or (860) 802-6018.

“Going Green — What Congregations and Their Members Can Do” will be presented by Allis Druffel of California Interfaith Power and Light on April 14.

“Allis will present what congregations and their members are doing to reduce energy use and save money,” said Greg Kelley of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council vice president.

The luncheon will be at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 2850 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. The reception is at 11:45, lunch at 12:10 p.m., program at 12:45 p.m. and adjournment by 1:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 with a reservation, and $12 without a reservation. The 13th annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast will take place at the Costa Mesa Country Club, 1701 Golf Course Road May 6, according to the Rev. David Stoner, First Methodist Church of Costa Mesa. The keynote speaker is David Levinson, founder and executive director of BIG SUNDAY, the largest interfaith hands-on weekend of service in the U.S. Big Sunday Weekend this year is May 1 and 2 and it the country’s largest single weekend of community service organization. Last year, Big Sunday mobilized nearly 1,000 people of Orange County to work on 96 service projects on Big Sunday weekend. Big Sunday is entering its 12th year, activates 50,000 people from Santa Barbara to San Diego. For more information, visit www.bigsunday.org.
