Quartet collects honors

Corona del Mar High juniors Danny Cheek and Clayton Ragsdale, as well as Estancia senior Kohl Jones and Sage Hill School senior Kevin Schaefer earned second-team All-CIF Southern Section honors in the respective boys’ basketball divisions.

Cheek and Ragsdale, who helped lead the Sea Kings to a Pacific Coast League title, received recognition in Division III-A. They helped CdM (24-4) to the quarterfinals.

Cheek led the Sea Kings in scoring, averaging 13.8 points per game. Ragsdale led the team in assists with 6.3 per game, and he was third on the team in scoring with 11.8 points per game.

Jones was the Eagles’ top scorer with 14.3 points per game. He played in Estancia’s lone playoff game in Division IV-AA, as he made his first appearance since missing the final four regular-season games with torn ligaments in his left ankle. Jones also earned first-team All-Orange Coast League honors for the Eagles (15-12).

Schaefer averaged 10.5 points per game for Sage Hill (17-8), which reached the quarterfinals in Division V-AA.
